Looking Back at 2016

My  goodness time sure flies and here we are just at the door of 2017. I have been busy painting but posting only when I feel something is ready. I really like my slow approach. I have been painting a lot behind the scenes but slowing down my posting, it makes sense for me because I want to focus more on the art. Bear with the length of the images, I have been having a difficult time with uploading photos and having my page get stuck many times. This is the easiest way to put together this post. I will do a post in the next few days of my favorite photos of 2016 as I am getting impatient with how long this is taking. It has been a fantastic year and I am looking forward to what 2017 will hold for me and my art endeavors.

Here are my favorite paintings of the year, first the pastels:

*A word about photos. The photos on my blog are mine, taken by me and copying them would be stealing from me. If you find a photo that you would like to copy or use, I request that you ask me for permission and I expect you to give me full credit for my own photo. Thank you so very much.

    1. Thank you so very much…..I feel the same about yours because even though my environment isn’t as extreme as yours, I still feel like going home when I read your blog. Of course I do have a thing for nature and Canada 😉 Cheers! raise your hiking stick to 2017! or cap…you fill in the blank….mine would be painting brush. God Bless!

  1. the spirit of creation is certainly revealed in your work Miss M! from pastels to wc that ‘fresh and magical’ plein air feeling is just There. That is a massive achievement; one many do not even attempt. But you just go and hike your way in and Go! there is no boring, sitting at home thumbing through bland photos!! I love your work, your approach. please, don’t change!! hugs for 2017 YRF

    1. You are a doll! You nailed it exactly by your comments and observation, I couldn’t have said it better. I have been in the studio recently but there is a huge difference, I will not paint from a photo that I haven’t personally been there and I only paint from photos that make my heart go “bippity do wop” with that special connection! 😉 Thank you! Happy New Year my dear River Friend!

  2. Great to see your “year in review” Margaret! I think have seen and commented on most of these before but the top two pastels are definitely new to me and I think they are beautiful. The warm reds in riverbed grasses is an eternal challenge to me and I think you did a great job on that second one. I think you have a very good eye for composition – the way lines run through your paintings. Happy new year, I hope 2017 is your best year yet!

    1. Thank you Fritz, so funny on that second pastel because it was in the dead of winter and I wanted to give it some boost, so I put aside my restraint and used my imagination. I can be very picky with composition so that aspect helps to push me to excel in that area, thank you for your keen observation. 😉 Oh you bet the next year will be the best ever, I plan on it! We have 35 more minutes here till midnight…..here it comes! 😉

I think 2016 produced some lovely paintings for you. Oddly enough, my favorite is that big fat tree trunk. I have no idea why which is odd for me. I love your trees with light and your water scenes and your pastels are gorgeous but there is something about that tree trunk!

    1. Thank you Dawn, I agree, 2016 has been very good to me. I know what you mean in regards to that fat tree….there is a special light and feeling to it and the photo doesn’t do it justice. The colors are spot on but I think photos always doesn’t give you the true essence of a painting and what you are looking at. What do you have in store this year, anything different or new?

  4. What a fantastic collection of artworks Margaret.
They are all so beautiful, I love that you incorporate so much vibrant color into them!
That second photo really draws me in, maybe its the red grasses, I just adore it!
