Peoria Memorial Park-World Watercolor 7

Up and at it early and arriving just before the sun hit the cementery, located about 5 miles from Loma Rica.

The sun just coming over the ridge
beautiful light and color on these cypresses

I intended to make a rather tight study or detailed paintings but, again….my loose and crazy side came out to play. I actually painted one more but it was not quite clear enough in the shapes and values to include here.

I am trying to find my way into an approach that really works for me, I do tend to want to abstract my paintings lately, so I am not holding back. Perhaps it is my way of finding how far I want to go with looseness. Time will tell if I venture back to more realism, I am not worried about it. I am painting for pure joy and for me at this point.

It was so fun to hear the birds and mooing cattle nearby. I scouted out this cemetery about two weeks ago and I finally was able to come and paint. Now….if you are wondering where are the headstones in my paintings? I think that you can see one that is a shape of a headstone that I intended to paint but was initially forgotten. I think that I was to excited about the trees and the beauty rather than the headstones.

Poor dear Margaret….. but she had a long life!

Love that view! especially of the oaks in the background

Learning Points:

  • Mingle your paints rather than on the palette, so much more exciting!

Short and sweet….sorry I ran out of steam, more next time.

    1. thank you John…..good to hear your thoughts on them, I feel a little out there with my color, I do love color but I am intentionally stretching my muscles by going further than I normally would. I intend to get over to your latest post, I was busy painting, posting, uploading photos, you name it! thank you again. 🙂

    1. lol yep…..I didn’t sleep well again and awake at 5 am. I am trying to paint another painting, upload photos, water, do chores and the list goes on. I ran out of steam! and it is only 2:30 pm for me! lol At least I made the most important point today…..Mingle that paint! 🙂

  1. OMG love your colors Margaret. They shine and glimmer. My faves are #3 and #4. 3 to me is just perfect for trees in the cemetery. We have the looming darkness and the glorious light. So much mood in this painting. Love it! #4 for the same reason, may even suit the cemetery better but if I had to choose, I would go with 3 I think because of the light. This looks like a wonderful place to paint! I just love old cemeteries, was a genealogy buff for quite some time and used to haunt them lol. Love your work and the mingling on the page, yes yes yes! And more abstract yes yes yes! Lots to love in your post today, Margaret! ❤

    1. oh! so wonderful to hear….not that I would change my walking down the ole abstract trail but I was wondering if this is permanent or? and my colors….I was wondering ‘too wild’? but it seems like everyone is getting on board with my little venture and most important, it feels natural. I truly love cemeteries and have plein air painted many times in various locations. Thank you so much Laura! woot woot 🙂 That expression seems to be reserved for the young, but today I am using it!
